Investigation of natural halogenated volatile organic compounds (XVOCs) in the Amazon rainforest

Halogenated VOCs affect atmospheric chemistry both on a local and on a global scale due to their ability to deplete ozone. After the Montreal Protocol came into force in 1989 to regulate anthropogenic XVOC emissions, natural sources became the focus of attention. My goal is to implement long-term XVOC measurements at the ATTO tower in the Amazon rainforest to gain insights into the underlying formation and degradation processes and to better estimate net XVOC fluxes of the Amazon ecosystem.
